Dealing with Website Content
If you are a new business and you are thinking of expanding your business online; the first thing you usually ask yourself is how you would like your website to look like. This should not be your primary concern. Before even thinking about a design, you should have an idea of what information should appear on your website. After all, your website should be a place where you customers learn about your business, and the design should complement that information by creating an environment that should make the information accessible to them.
So, what information should you put in your website? There are other questions that should answer this: First, what kind of business are you? Second, what kind of customers are you targeting and; third, what information about your business do you want your customers to learn about?
The first question should give you an overall idea of the company profile or business description that you want to provide your customers. Customers need to know about your business and what it’s all about so they have an idea of what you are offering them. This kind of information also provides credibility to the products or services that you are offering and is a great way to start building your company name as a brand.
Answering the second question should help you define your specific target market and help you further determine what kind of information about your products or services this market will want from your company. This will also help you determine in what way to convey the information. For example, if your target market is the teenage crowd, you would want your content to sound fun and active and your website design to evoke just the same kind of atmosphere.
The third question should help you define your business information. That is, you should come up with specific ideas of what services or products you should emphasize, for example; or what kind of promotional strategy to offer customers to sell a particular service.
Further, all the answers you get from the 3 questions above, should enable you to come up with your own site map, or a plan of what your main website pages should be. Your website should consists of information that your customers and prospective customers would be interested to learn about your company and your products and services. It should also provide them with a means to interact with you or contact you for any inquiries.
However, if you are just starting your business, you might not have definite answers to these questions. The good thing with a website is, that you can get customer feedback about your products and services as well as comments and suggestions on your website.
